Product Care
Congratulations to owning a brass product from Skultuna. Carefully treated, your Skultuna product will accompany you for generations to come.
Skultuna products are made of solid brass without surface treatment if nothing else is stated. Brass is a living material that oxidizes over time and needs care by its owner to keep the shine through the ages. The oxidize protects the metal and prolongs the lifespan, on the inside of vases and flower pots this is desirable and should not be removed. On the outside, it's a matter of taste whether you polish it or not. Brass will naturally darken over the years and fingerprints, grease, water etc may leave stains on the surface. If you wish to keep the high polished surface you will need to polish the brass regularly. How often varies depending on the environment, air quality, how you handle the brass and more.

Care Instructions
Polished brass - We recommend a gentle non-abrasive metal polish like Skultuna Metal polish. The polish paste is applied with a dry cloth. If heavily stained let it sit for a while, then polish the surface until clean and shiny again. Don't use too much polishing paste at once, it is better to use a small amount of polish and re apply during the process to get the best effect.
We do not recommend a water-soluble polish for polished brass as the water may leave stains unless you dry it very carefully.
Gold plated brass – Wipe with a dry cloth. If needed polish with car wax, for example, Turtle wax. Don't use metal polish as this may cause the gold to come off.
Silver plated brass – Silver reacts naturally with sulphur in the surrounding air and will darken if not cleaned regularly, this is referred to as "tarnishing". If left un-polished the surface will first turn yellowish to finally turn black. A silver cloth can be used for daily cleaning to keep the surface light. If stained, use a gentle metal polish on a dry cloth, we recommend Skultuna Metal polish.
Brushed brass – Treat as polished brass, we recommend Skultuna Metal polish. Try to follow the direction of the brush for best effect.
Blackened brass - Wiped with a damp cloth every once in a while. Heat the product gently if melted wax get stuck and then remove with a soft cloth.
Etched brass – Polish like normal with a dry cloth, use a small amount of polish at a time. Etched brass might get the polish stuck in the holes, if this happens carefully remove by patting the surface with the cloth from both sides at the same time, or use a cotton bud. We recommend Skultuna Metal polish.
It's also possible to use a water soluble polish for etched brass, like Bistro, but keep in mind, you need to carefully dry the surface after the final wash. Even the slightest moisture on the surface will cause stains.
Vases - Keep the outside dry, if it gets wet when filling with water or if water drips from the leafs, dry the surface immediately to avoid stains.
Champagne coolers - if the outside gets wet due to condensation, try to wipe it of once in a while during the use. But most importantly, never leave the cooler to self dry! Make sure to completely dry the brass surface after use, then polish it before putting it away.
